Helmets are needed as well. Many people do not climb with helmets, but serious head injuries can easily be prevented just by wearing a climbing helmet. Climbing shoes are helpful, but not necessary for the person who is simply trying out climbing. These are very narrow and have a special sole that grips well to the rock. With the proper climbing shoes, a person is able to perform much better on the rock.

Learning the Technique

Rock climbing is all about fitness and the proper technique. It is not reserved for muscle bound people. Balance and agility actually play a more important role in climbing than shear strength does.
