From Playshop to the top of Horsetooth! PDF Print E-mail

Earlier today I attended a Playshop hosted by Don.  Besides learning a few things about myself and meeting a few new friends I came away with a little extra motivation to become a healthier person.  So after the session instead of going home and watching what turned out to be an entertaining NCAA BBall game I went up to Horsetooth to take a walk.  And walk and walk and walk I did all the way to the top on some very muddy and slippery trails.  What a view from the top.  I can't believe it took me over ten years to make it up there. I want to thank Don and his team for the extra encouragement it took to get me off the couch and celebrate the wonderful outdoors in Colorado.  Keep up the great work.

Sitting here in my warm, cozy house watching it snow outside and I decided the time was right to let everyone know about the newest challenge of the 50k Challenge.

Ya see, in our neck of the woods (Fort Collins, CO) we have a very special event every August called The Wild West Relay....or more affectionately known as "Get Your Ass Over The Pass".  It's a 200 mile 24 hour team relay adventure race held in August that goes from Fort Collins to Steamboat Springs through some of the most beautiful mountain country you will ever see.  Because I enjoy a challenge, and because I needed to motivate myself to get my very own patooty off the couch and onto the pavement over the winter, I decided it would be "fun" to form a team of 12 people to enter into the race.

I've been personally begging all my friends to make the commitment to this event with me and so far I have had quite a few "are you out of your ever-loving mind?"s, a couple of "no way, absolutely not, don't speak to me ever again"s, and four brave souls that have agreed to start the team.

We have our very own gym sponsorship from Greg Bobby at The Zone Health and Fitness in Fort Collins, and Dr. Monty Wilburn with Family and Sport Chiropractic has graciously agreed to donate chiropractic time to our weary and footsore team.  My quest for the upcoming week is to round out our roster of 12, choose a name for our Road Warriors, and get us registered to compete in the Helter Skelter category of the race.

Stay tuned for updates on our progress!
